Manifesto

Since starting at Royal Holloway, I have been an active member of student staff working for the Tech department of the Students’ Union. During this time I have become increasingly involved in the commercial and events side of the business. This position has allowed me to gain an excellent understanding of how this side of the Students’ Union is run and its strengths. As both a staff member and a student, I also understand how the decisions which are made by management directly impact upon students. This unique perspective will allow me to provide a broad view of the union as both a business and a representative of the student body. As a result, I will be able to make responsible, informed decisions which accurately reflect the requirements of current students.

If appointed to the board of trustees, I will work towards three main objectives which I believe are essential to the successful running of the Students’ Union as both a business and representative of the student body:

  • A fair and responsible decision making process which represents the best interest of all members.
Decisions made by management of the Students Union directly impact upon all aspects of student life across campus from events to societies and the provision of support services. It is essential that these decisions are made in an informed manner which are based upon current student views.
  • The appropriate allocation of finances to ensure successful running of the business and provision of a broad range of facilitating services.
There are several departments which make up the Students’ Union, each essential to the running of the organisation and provision of services to students. It is important to ensure finances are appropriately balanced to ensure each department is receiving a sufficient share of resources to ensure effective operation which all members can actively benefit from.
  • The provision of a diverse and inclusive social experience.
While not directly involved in the social provision of the union, the decisions made by the board of trustees will impact upon this. Owing to my experience over the past 18 months in the Tech department, I am regularly involved in events and therefore understand what is required to facilitate this. I intend to represent these interests on the board of trustees to ensure that appropriate consideration is given to this area and staff are fulfilling their responsibility to provide this.
