Clem Jones

Candidate for President

Clem Jones.

Hi, I’m Clem and this year I’ve been your Vice President for Education.

I’ve campaigned to make your feedback and course rep system better, guided the strategic direction of the Union as a trustee, and now I’m ready to lead the Union as President. Vote for me if you think it’s #Clementime to...

CLEAN UP INEQUALITY

The College is beginning to strategize how to tackle its Black and Minority Ethnicity attainment gap. I will ensure this continues to be a priority on their agenda, as well as the gender pay gap, campus accessibility, PGT provision, PGR representation, and reducing stigma over protected characteristics.

CLEAN UP UNION TRANSPARENCY

What are your Elected Officers doing? I want to keep you better informed about the day to day running of your Student Union.

I will make Officer calendars available so you can book meetings directly; continue going out onto campus to meet students; hold a ‘President’s Questions’ hour on Insanity Radio; post daily social media updates about what I’m doing as your President.

CLEAN UP OUR DEMOCRACY AND POLICY WORK

I will fully review our democratic structure and union policies.

Currently we have many outdated policies. The mechanisms for student input are not fit for purpose. I intend to use another external consultant to make sure we can negotiate everyone’s opinions and difficult decisions effectively.

CLEAN UP OUR VENUES

As President, I want you to be able to have the best facilities and discounts for your clubs, societies and socialising.

Let’s introduce a loyalty scheme where all students can earn points for spending in spaces like the Union Shop and Tommy’s Kitchen, which you can then use to save money in our venues. Medicine is also in dire need of refurb, and subject to College approval, I want to make sure the space is made up to suit your needs.

CLEAN UP OUR CAMPUS

Did you know the College’s ethical investment policy (under review) allows College endowments to be invested in any FTSE All Share Index stocks that don’t make more than 33.3% of its profits from weaponry? Are you concerned where Royal Holloway is investing its money? Well, I am! Stand with me to ensure our University is investing ethically, responsibly and sustainably.
