Daniela Rios

Candidate for VP Societies and Media

Daniela Rios.

I aspire to become the new VP of Societies and Media because I am committed to help students discover new passions, improve their gifts, meet other talented people on campus and enable students to make the best of their experience at Royal Holloway!

My vision is to:

  • Open more spaces on campus for societies and clubs to gather, practice and/or rehearse.
  • Give priority to societies and clubs to book rooms on campus at low costs.
  • Improve the awards given to members of societies for their achievements throughout the year. With this I aim to encourage involvement and to increase student’s employability after graduating.
  • Invest more money for societies to go into national and/or international competitions. With this I aim to boost Royal Holloway’s ranking and to encourage students to be recognised nationwide.
  • Encourage societies to connect with other student groups inside and outside Royal Holloway.
  • Facilitate the process of new societies to be created and developed.
  • Work closely with the Student Union to increase the visibility of our media outlets.
  • Help societies to come up with creative ways to raise money by organising more socials, charity events & fundraisers throughout the year.
  • Develop a Union App to get easy updates on events, gigs and socials organised at the SU.
  • Work closely with the SU to go greener and to become more sustainable.

I am Daniela Rubi, a fourth year Drama and Philosophy student.

Ever since I started university I got involved in every extracurricular activity I could find on campus. I have been part of the Writing Society, Reel Music Society, the Drama Society, Savoy Opera Society, The Latin American Society, the VegSoc, the Salsa Society, the Film Society and the Student Workshop. In 2015 I became the president of the Philosophy Society as well as the head of communications of RHUBARB TV.

After a year abroad in Australia I have returned to my fourth year at Holloway. I am currently working on my final year performance, developing a new play in Noh Theatre and training regularly with the Muay Thai Club and the Rock Climbing Club. Apart from my extracurricular activities, I have been working for the Student Union since 2014. I began working as bar staff but my eagerness to improve and help this organisation have leaded me to cross train as a security and technical staff, working incessantly for the development of this amazing organisation!
