Elizabeth Silverberg

Candidate for VP Sport

Elizabeth Silverberg.

Sport at University plays a huge part in most student’s university experience, but I want to get every student involved in sport. I firstly want to improve the sports centre. The sports centre and gym are too small for the increasing population of the University as well as Varsity becoming such a big sporting event in the Spring term. I also want to focus on spectator comfort when re developing the sports centre. This would include introducing stands and possibly a coffee shop! Pitch quality is also a key issue that needs to be addressed and have a preventive method to stop the pitches become waterlogged. This would be something that I would try to improve over the Summer ready for the beginning of term in September to stop matches being unnecessarily cancelled when it could be avoided!

Sport is so much more than a Wednesday afternoon and being part of a sports club. Sports greatly helps those with mental health issues, and with University being a hot spot for mental health problems. I want to ensure that sport on campus is accessible to everyone. I want to have a gym membership included in all first year’s accommodation fees (or money taken off accommodation fees if you don’t want it).

I also want to attempt to develop and improve a relationship with DDS, and to give more support to individuals registered with them, with potentially reducing gym membership being just one example. I also want to arrange an inclusive sports day where societies and clubs collaborate to raise money for mental health charities as well as raising awareness of mental health within University.

Colours and Socs Ball is a major event which has been gradually been going up in price in each year. I want to actually split the cost across the two terms to help students to manage the cost more effectively and giving more people to come to the event and celebrate the achievements that their club and society has achieved over the year. I would also want Presidents of Clubs and Societies to have a more inclusive role in the decision making of the menus for both Balls.

Sport is such an important part of University and I would be honoured to be given the chance to improve and develop sports on campus for everyone! Vote Lizzie for VP Sport!!
