Georgie Cole

Candidate for VP Sport

Georgie Cole.

My name is Georgie Cole and I believe I am the most suitable candidate for this role because in my three years at Royal Holloway I have actively been involved in sport both as a player and a committee member. This has given me the understanding into how RHUL sport could be improved to give the best possible experience for all, regardless of the level you play at.

NEW GYM

The current sporting facilities on campus, in particular the gym, are simply not good enough for the number of students and ever-growing popularity of this university. Huge investment has been made into the education sector e.g. the new library and the new science building. I believe the same investment should be extended to our sports facilities to enhance the experience of all students who attend this university, whether they be actively involved in a sports club or just looking to keep fit in their free time. Royal Holloway’s 2016-2020 Strategic Plan seeks to increase the number of students at this university. More students at this university, means we will require bigger and better sports facilities to keep up with the demand.

NEW PAYMENT SYSTEM FOR SPORTS CLUBS

A new payment system for things such as match fees, umpires and transport should be implemented. Currently students have to pay these fees and then claim them back. I will look at implementing a new system (similar to buying an SU ticket) where the money is transferred directly from the club’s account. This will benefit students by keeping their own money in their own pockets!

NEW SPORTS PHYSIO AND INJURY SUPPORT

We need to improve our sports clubs and facilities and get more people playing at a higher level. Inevitably high-level sport means more injury and we need to support our players better through the process of rehabilitation. This means we need access to professional physios and sports therapists. I will affiliate with a local physio practice and organise reduced prices and better support for home games.
