Megan Adela Goh

Candidate for VP Welfare and Diversity

Megan Adela Goh.

Here is why you should vote Megan Adela Goh for Welfare and Diversity: I am a 2nd year Computer Science with Management student; Champion of CISCO University Challenge 2017; previous President of Student-Staff committee, RH International Study Centre; previous First Year Rep and current Social Secretary, Red Cup Company.

I want to make sure this university is an inclusive one, honouring everyone’s identities and cultures, by making sure everyone’s voice is heard and brought forward to the university. My manifesto would firstly be for equality for all students. As, for example, the English Department are given reading weeks, whereas Computer Science students are not given reading weeks even though in the last week of term they are given minimal hours of contact-time. Therefore, I propose that all departments should get reading weeks, which I believe will benefit the mental health of students.

I would also raise awareness regarding students using the gender neutral toilets. I am aware that there are 2 male-only toilets, 1 female- only toilet and 1 gender neutral toilet in the ground floor of the SU. I propose that the gender neutral toilets are used for only transgender and female students to even out toilet ratio.

Secondly, I want to engage the minority by implementing a dedicated 24/7 mental health support service, including students who are living off-campus and in Kingswood, introduce nap rooms so that commuters from London, for example, can have a safe place to rest between classes.

I want to make the college bus run 24/7 so that students who live in Kingswood can get to campus and back easily and safely.

Seeing the rising number of cases of burglary, I want to implement non-term time campus security for off-campus within Egham town and finally, campaigns for raising awareness for minorities and the issues they have.

Thirdly, in terms of welfare, I want to make a library-space app so that finding a space to study is not a hassle and I want to implement a 20-minute time limit for library room reservation non-attendance, where after this time the room would be opened up.

Next, I would address the diversity by widening the range of halal food and expanding vegan/vegetarian food range around campus. Lastly, I want to solve problems efficiently and so I propose an immediate online chat system with the SU and a lost-and-found portal after SU nights for collection of cloakroom items.
