Hello! If you’re thinking of running to be the next VP Education then this is the blog for you! Here is an insight into a day in the life of VP Education at RHSU.

Usually, I wake up at 5am and drag myself to the gym before work. After getting my blood pumping and on an endorphin rush, I head home, make breakfast and head to work!

I get to the SU office for 9am. I put my things down at my desk and grab a glass of water while I wait for my computer to power up. I leave my lunch in the fridge and waddle over to my desk where (hopefully) my computer has turned on. Sometimes it takes a few rounds of pressing the on button because my computer seems to hate me.

Once I’ve logged in I switch on my headphones and do an hour or so of email catch-up (if I don’t have any meetings). Meetings tend to take up most of my day I’d say I average about four a day. In between meetings, I make sure to refill my glass of water as I try to get in two litres a day. Around 1pm I have my lunch with the rest of the Membership office, we sit and chat and eat our lunch and then we head back to work.

After this it’s another set of meetings, checking emails etc. My meetings range from conversations about how we can best support international students to how we can increase the amount of financial aid we provide for our students. I also spend time working alongside our school reps and academic community officers, providing them with 1-1’s and support in their roles. We organise lots of fun workshops and events for the Academic Representation system alongside meeting regularly with members of your department. As VP Education, I also oversee the Academic Representation system, which is how we enact the change you want to see! You can find your rep on our website.

Part of my role as a Sabbatical Officer includes being a Trustee for the SU. This means the Board of Trustees and I are responsible for every decision made within the organisation. We discuss things like Summer Ball, Academic Representation and so much more. You can find out more about our trustees and their responsibilities here.

This is my typical day, but I get up to a lot more. I love making reels and content for you all, Canva is my best friend. I’m also currently working on LGBT+ History Month so there’s been a lot of fun preparing events and informative resources to help spread awareness on the experience of queer people within healthcare. If you’re looking to find love, make sure you head to LGBT+ Speed Dating on Thursday 8 February.

And that’s pretty much it! I might be forgetting a few things but this is what I get up to in a day.
