As we come to the end of Term One, the Sabbatical Officer team shares their highlights from the academic year so far. From lobbying the University to collaborating with the Careers Service, Active Lifestyle and Sport and Hall Life to heading up liberation campaign months – it’s been a busy one!

SU SECURITY REVIEW

In my manifesto, I promised to champion the implementation of recommendations from the SU Security Review. Over the summer and during this term, I have led an SU Security Review working group. This group includes SU staff members from our Trading and Marketing & Communications team. We have implemented a Complaints Form similar to the RH Be Heard form and provided the current security teams with further Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training. Read more about what we’ve been up to so far.

YOUR WELLBEING

I led a Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance (SHAG) Week which focused on confronting taboo topics, getting clued up on STIs (sexually transmitted infections) and running fun events for you to get involved in. From sharing student experiences to a Sexy Pub Quiz at The Packhorse, we hope we created a safe space to talk about sex.

As part of the NeverOk campaign (tackling sexual harassment and misconduct), students from the NeverOk campaign working group and I organised and delivered Consent and Active Bystander training. The session covered consent, boundaries and communication, inclusion and belonging, support and report as well as building leadership skills to create a safer and more inclusive campus environment.

EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES (EC) POLICY

I’ve been working closely with the University to gain student feedback regarding the Extenuating Circumstances (EC) Policy. This included organising a workshop for our Student Executive members and academic reps to attend. We’re now seeking additional input from students, which will help us to define and decide the specifics of the policy and how it will work. Have your say by completing the survey.

Merry Christmas from the Sabbs!

For those with assessments in the Spring Term, best of luck and check out Sharanya’s (VP Education) blog on the assessment period! You've got this, and your efforts will pay off.

Wishing you all the best winter break!
