Hi! I’m Sharanya, your VP Education 2023/24 and I’m so excited to work alongside my fellow sabbatical officers to ensure your experience at Royal Holloway is the best it can be!

About me

Here are some quick facts, so you can get to know me better.

  1. I’ve just graduated from Royal Holloway where I studied Politics Philosophy and Economics.
  2. In my third year, I was the Secretary of PIRSoc which was a thoroughly rewarding experience.
  3. I’m a massive gym rat, specifically into strength-based training.

Why I ran for the role

Growing up a part of the BAME community and having been a first-gen university student, I have realised education is not accessible enough. I ran for VP Education this year as I’m passionate about higher education and ensuring that everyone has equal opportunity to access it.

That’s why this year, during my term as VP Education I hope to:

  • Develop outreach programmes and summer schools for prospective students who are part of underprivileged demographics.
  • Advertise more bursaries and loans with no interest rates – guaranteeing students are not further disadvantaged during the cost of living crisis.
  • Utilise our connection with the University of London group by holding LinkedIn events with other London Universities – helping you network and build connections within the working world.
  • Promote various career-enriching opportunities to you (graduate schemes, internships, etc).
  • And much more!

Top tips for students

  • Always ask if there’s a student discount.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  • Join a student group. Always get involved where you can, you won’t regret it!
