After weeks of online and in-person campaigning and three long days of voting, 2700 students turned out to vote in this year’s Leadership Elections – a turnout of 19.5%.

With four full-time Sabbatical Officers, six School Reps and five Community Officers being elected (four of these roles will be heading to a By-Election), you cast a whopping 12,822 electronic votes to select who you wanted to see lead the Students’ Union in 2024/25.

With Hannah Hockin at the end of her maximum two-year term as a Sabbatical Officer, we were guaranteed a new President, and Sharanya Sivarajah (current VP Education) was successfully elected to lead the Union.

Madelaine Gray was elected as your new Vice President Education, Olivia Davies becomes VP Wellbeing & Diversity, and Bana Asqalan will assume the role of VP Societies & Sport. We would like to congratulate all of our candidates on their phenomenal campaigns which have seen them elected into their respective roles.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our candidates who stood this year – without you, there simply would be no election. A big thumbs up also to all of the campaign teams who have worked hard to support the candidates, and kept us entertained with some quirky posts and campaign videos.

The Students’ Union looks forward to welcoming the newly elected officers to the team in July, ready for a year of action and change.

Competition Winners

We are delighted to announce the winners of our student group competition, with Netball (63.9% turnout) securing the win in the 50+ members category, while Ultimate Frisbee (93.5% turnout) claimed the victory in the under 50 members category. Both groups will be receiving £50 into their restricted accounts.

Congratulations to Geography - you have the highest voter turnout (30.7%) by department, winning a pizza party on us!

Individual voters have helped us raise £270 for the Student Group Access Fund! That's funding that students can apply for and use on membership, kit and essential costs, competition entry costs, events and loads of other ways, making our activities accessible to all.
