Hi everyone!

We’re both passionate about employability and inclusivity, and we want to talk to you about an amazing opportunity for current Year 1 and Year 2 undergraduate students. In collaboration with the University, we've filmed a short video to give you the low-down!

Do you identify or belong to one or more of the following backgrounds?

  • Registered with the Disability & Neurodivergence Team
  • Black Heritage
  • Financially supported/low-income backgrounds
  • First generation at university or care-leavers

If so, make sure to check out the Summer Skills Placement Programme run by the University's Careers service. This programme offers students the opportunity to participate in a short-term placement during summer 2024. You’ll receive a grant (either £400 or £650 depending on the duration) from the University upon completion of your placement and your public transport expenses reimbursed.

Placements are sourced by the Placements Team and placements can be remote, hybrid or in-person. What’s more, the placement appears on your official University transcript! In return for a placement opportunity and a fantastic career-developing experience, you will need to complete several online activities that contribute to your learning on the pathway.

On the pathway, you’ll develop vital skills that will help you when applying for employment, placements, work experience or internships; skills include preparing CVs and interviews: the programme helps you build confidence across these areas, and most of all, you will feel supported in the process.

The time commitment expected of you is 8 - 10 hours between now and March, which you can fit around your studies, and the Placements team is there for the duration to support you!

Participating and prospective Summer Skills Placement students are given the opportunity to attend an annual celebratory networking event held in the Picture Gallery where they can meet placement providers.

If you’re eligible, you’ll have received an email from Careers about how to sign up. You can also visit the Student Intranet to find out more. Sign-up closes on 4 December 2023.
