The RHUL Student Manifesto: Your Ideas So Far

As part of our Turn Up campaign, we’ve been asking the student body what issues matter the most to them and what they want to see out of the next government. A general election is coming before January 2025, and we want to do our part in making sure your voices are heard.

As part of our Turn Up campaign, we’ve been asking the student body what issues matter the most to them and what they want to see out of the next government. A general election is coming before January 2025, and we want to do our part in making sure your voices are heard. Using your feedback, we are collating issues to create a Royal Holloway Student Manifesto and here’s what we’ve got so far.

Housing & Accommodation

  • Better rights for students as tenants, ensuring better quality of housing and being able to hold landlords and estate agents to account.
  • Hold universities more accountable for accommodation costs by introducing rent caps.

Funding & Fees

  • Get rid of or lower student fees, ensuring education is accessible for all.
  • Increase maintenance loans annually in line with inflation.

LGBT+ Community

  • Better support for trans students at university.
  • Make the country safer for the LGBT+ community.

Support

  • Better mental health support at universities by investing in mental health and wellbeing services in education.
  • Better support for international students, including financial aid.

Have something you want to add? Have your say and turn up!

Next term, we will begin reaching out to local parliamentary candidates to hear their responses to the issues that matter the most to you. You can also fill out the NUS What Students Think survey where they will be working at a national level.
