Due to the high demand for accommodation on campus, many students have to look for accommodation off campus in the private sector, often in the neighbouring areas of Englefield Green, Egham, Virginia Water, or even a couple of miles away in places like Staines, Addlestone and Windsor.
Looking for your first rented property can be a daunting prospect, but needn't be too difficult if you take your time and follow basic guidelines. The Student Advice Centre has a range of Housing leaflets and online Housing Information to help you find a suitable property and advise you what to do if problems should arise once you have moved in.
The Students' Union holds Accommodation days to inform students of the important issues to consider when looking for and living in private sector accommodation.
Royal Holloway's StudentPRS website can provide you with details of private rented accommodation. The college does not inspect properties and therefore cannot guarantee their condition, quality or safety. However, Runnymede Borough Council runs a Landlord Accreditation Scheme and the proerties listed on Netlet will include many accredited properties. For a full list of accredited properties in the local area, please visit the Runnymede Accreditation Scheme website and click on 'Register of Accredited Properties'.
