Katie Phillips.

Candidate for School of Business & Management

My name is Katie Phillips and some of you may have heard of me around the Management school department. I’m often known for helping students with anything related to the degree and most of the time can be found in the library sipping a cup of coffee. I enjoy reading and researching more about the business industry and am always up for a chat about anything business related! My experience with hierarchies and negotiations comes from sitting on the Board of Directors for a sports organisation as one of the lead Directors. This role has enabled me to hold a vast number of meetings with different people around the world and broaden my experience with business dealings. I’m very sporty and have represented Great Britain both nationally and internationally.

I’m really passionate about making change for the better and by being elected as Academic Rep, this would enable me to make sure your voices are heard!

If elected I would aim to work on the following:

  • Student voices should be heard - We have been heavily impacted by the pandemic and we should be listened to as to how things can change to help make our education better.
  • Fairness. Students still struggle when it comes to guidance with exams and assignments. Although our lovely lecturers and CEDAS are fantastic, there is still room for improvement.
  • Organisation. Sometimes it’s a struggle when looking at a modules page and the information is all over the place. By working with lecturers to make the layouts more clearly, this will not only make it easier for you to find the information, but it will also reduce the number of emails lecturers receive about where to find information.

I would make sure to hold frequent meetings at different times and on different days to enable all students could attend one if they wanted too. These meetings would be a touch bases point where we can discuss what is currently happening and any feedback you may have. By communicating regularly with you, our students, I would be able to make sure that any decisions made would benefit you and be the change that you would want to see. Over time, needs change and this is why a frequent meeting is important to ensure that everything is up to date with that current period.
