Candidate for School of Engineering, Physical & Mathematical Sciences

As EPMS School Representative my main goal would be to inspire creativity and increase accessibility within our school. To do this I propose the following ideas:

  1. EPMS Maker-Space - I propose a makerspace for students within EPMS, to allow students from any department within our school to learn and use the fantastic facilities we have available. We have so many remarkable technologies within our school, from our computer labs and digital fabrication to CAD, 3D printing, PCB design, Programming and more. Still, these facilities are not accessible across the school. Currently, we have no way of expressing creativity outside of our departments. This would create a space for scientists, designers and engineers alike to create and explore outside of their studies. Many universities have these tools available to students, why not bring it to Royal Holloway!
  2. Turning your subjects into passions – University is the starting point for our adult lives, so it’s important to start exploring options for your post-studies life. Many students have the drive to start their own small business, or even to participate in research. I propose bi-weekly workshops for all students on topics ranging from starting your own business to cross-department workshops where students get a taste for topics outside of their degree program. While undergraduate research opportunities do exist, they are far from easily accessible for many students. As a university that prides itself on research, many more opportunities could be made available for all students to get involved in research no matter their interests.
  3. Improving rep communication - I believe that student voice is essential to drive change within our school, but it is again the result of a lack of accessibility. I would like to introduce a monthly student voice newsletter for you and weekly drop-in session, organised by myself and department reps, where you can bring ideas forward, issues you are currently facing and vote on ideas to be actioned on. This would put you at the centre of change within our school, which is exactly where you should be.
  4. Improving school communications – Currently, it’s difficult to digest the endless information that we receive, the vast amounts of emails from different people, and vague informational emails. I propose a weekly school newsletter to condense all this information into a presentable and readable manner. No matter the circumstances, students deserve to be updated and informed about their education.
