Candidate for School of Life Sciences & the Environment

My manifesto will cover 6 main objectives in the Biosciences and will work effectively to ensure that the students of Biosciences are provided with the resources for the betterment of their academics needs within the course specification.

  1. After representing my course as an academic rep for two consecutive years in a row, I have been made accustomed to a technology related challenges faced by students during lecture capture, Panopto presentations and issues during their inability to find the lecture recording. Education is dependent on the resources provided to the students to smoothen their learning. I plan on working on this point and ensuring the IT supports them at every stage.
  2. During the pandemic, many students encountered new challenges in the form of anxiety related issues which might have had an effect on their academic performance. I would work closely with the administration to ensure that the students are treated fairly and the EC’s applied by them, to not have an effect on their academics and degree in a long run.
  3. The course is full of medically inclined students who are looking for a future in the health sciences and hospital care. As a School Rep, I will be working closely with the NHS- St. Peters Hospital and Ashford to ensure that the students are given opportunities of shadowing, work experience, health care support and an opportunity to become a HCA to gather experience needed for a higher medical education. I also plan on opening a provision for them to take coaching classes for UCAT, BMAT and GRE required by the medical colleges during their selection process.
  4. I plan on suggesting the idea of increasing the number of SSC meetings, continue to improve the quality of receiving feedback and delegating it back and forth to the departmental heads and professors are effectively communicate and present a balanced view of the feedback and offer solutions in the favour of the students and their educational support.
  5. One of my key tasks will be to ensure that the voices of the students of students belong a minority group or are under-represented are hard to reach are given the right platform to voice their concerns and also create a committee to address their academic as well as well-being needs enabling them to feel empowered.
