Candidate for School Rep - Law & Social Sciences

I’m Oliver and I’m running for LSS Rep. As a second year student and a senior course rep in LSS I meet regularly with department heads, and am familiar with the challenges faced by students in LSS. I organised a social event at the start of semester 1, and I am currently organising a meds gala event at the start of semester 3 for all LSS students. I am committed to making positive changes that will benefit all students.

As your LSS Rep, I aim to implement a five-point plan to improve the department and enhance our experience as students:

  1. More LSS only study spaces - Studying is a significant part of our university experience, and having access to quiet and comfortable study spaces is essential. I will work towards creating more LSS only study spaces on campus, so we can have more places to focus and excel academically.
  2. Balance between in-person and online exams and more revision sessions - As your LSS Rep, I will ensure that there is a fair balance between in-person and online exams, and that there are more revision sessions to help us prepare for them.
  3. More LSS social events - Social events are an excellent way to connect with fellow students, network for our future and build a sense of community. I will work towards organising more LSS social events throughout the year.
  4. Ability to do a careers module from a different LSS department rather than our home department - I recognise that students have different interests and career aspirations. Therefore, I will work towards giving students the ability to do a careers module from a different LSS department rather than their home department, so they can explore different career paths.
  5. Promote equality and wellbeing in the department - Promoting equality and wellbeing is crucial to ensuring that all students feel valued and respected. I will work closely with the department heads to promote equality, diversity and inclusion in LSS, and to create a positive and supportive environment where we can thrive.

I am confident that my policies will create a more supportive and equal environment for LSS students at Royal Holloway. I am committed to ensuring that every student has access to the resources and support they need to succeed both academically and personally.

Thank you for your support, and I look forward to working together in the future as your LSS Rep.
