Evie Skyrme.

Candidate for VP Societies & Sport

Hi ! My name’s Evie and I’m running to be your next VP Societies and Sport!

Here are my plans!

1. INCLUSIVITY:

DEVELOP WAYS TO MAKE SPORT ON CAMPUS MORE ACCESSIBLE AND INCLUSIVE

We need to use the space we have on campus in a smarter way. Sport’s facilities at RHUL should be inclusive and welcoming for all whether you are a sporting pro or just starting out!

This could be achieved by:

  • Dedicated time slots for beginners (for example) where a member of staff can demonstrate simple workout plans and help you with form and technique to get you started and boost your confidence.
  • Classes designed to help combat gym anxiety.
  • Making sure the sports facilities are a safe space for ALL.

I want to hear from those who have experienced ‘gym anxiety’ or have not felt comfortable joining in on sports. Together we can effect change.

2. STUDENT-GROUP FOCUSED:

TRANSFORM THE SU WEBSITE INTO A MORE STUDENT GROUP FRIENDLY PLACE

  • A communal, virtual calendar to showcase what activities and events are happening each day. Increasing the visibility of student group events. A one-stop shop, rather than having to follow each individual society to keep track of what’s going on!
  • Make the paperwork process simpler! This term student-groups saw the introduction of yet another form to fill out with EXACTLY the same information just for a small section on our SU page. A fun, interactive, communal space on the SU website should not require an increase in the list of procedures.
  • Revamp Freshers Fair– virtual events could and should be here to stay. Let’s not abandon the things we have trialed and learnt from this year. Let’s improve it and have a fantastic stand-alone virtual experience that could also be a great supplement to in-person events.

3. TRANSPARENCY:

IMPROVE LEVELS OF TRANSPARENCY BETWEEN THE SU+VPS+STUDENTS IN A MORE ENGAGING MANNER

  • Anyone else think it’s time to update the blog posts? We see so much creativity from students and those that run for elections each year and this seems to disappear when it comes to delivering information.
  • Give updates on a more regular basis using video and audio content as well as the blog posts, to help students understand what goes on at the SU.
