The Shakespeare Society at Royal Holloway strives to promote The Bard in a way that is inclusive, active, and exciting. Winners of Most Improved Society 2015, the Skills and Employability Award 2016 and several of our members receiving Crest and Freshman Awards, the society is a half-and-half performance and academic community. Our events range from productions, socials, workshops, lectures, charity events and volunteering opportunities, and we are a member of the five Performing Arts Societies in the Students Union. Each term, we put on a play that is performed and produced entirely by our members. In the summer term, this production is open to all students in their first year of study and becomes part of our annual award winning Shakespearean Summer Festival. Past society productions have included a DIY theatre themed Henry V, a post-apocalyptic Romeo and Juliet, and Bowie-infused Cymbeline with Mods and Rockers, a light-hearted group of 'lads on tour' portraying Much Ado About Nothing, and a German-expressionism inspired Macbeth and Richard III.  Aside from productions, we host regular events such as our signature Elizabethan Dance Workshops and trips to The Globe Theatre in London, alongside inviting academics/alumni to the university and getting involved in the local Egham community, and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Above all, we aim to create a bubbly and welcoming environment for everyone bardy to enjoy, and encourage students to get involved in activities with like-minded people! Whether you know him well or are new to Shakespeare, we would love to meet and get to know you!
