Vice-President Welfare & Diversity

Willow Wong

Manifesto

I am Willow, a Malaysian Chinese, 2nd year in English and Philosophy. As your International Students Rep, I have been actively representing International, BME & LGBTQ+ students in meetings and panel discussions.

I am running for VP Welfare & Diversity – I aim to make our campus a truly welcoming community, where all students can raise their voices and celebrate their diverse identities.

Key Campaign Points:

  • We Are International
RHUL is home to over 2100 international students. I want to encourage better interaction between home and international students with a range of international events, including a Global Food, Film and Music Festival – together we can make it happen!
  • Social Spaces on Weekends
We've all struggled to find places to hang out. Want a place to relax in between lectures, or socialise on weekends, with no need to spend money on coffee? Available to everyone for free, 7 days a week – good for commuting students!
  • Visible Communities
We are different, and that’s super cool. Leading passionate student officers to create stronger network and support groups for intersectional communities – we’re talking postgraduates, mature students, and liberation groups (women, BME, mental health, LGBTQ+ & disabled students)!
  • Housing Support for All Students
Budgeting for housing expenses is tricky. Promoting to local landlords an all-inclusive housing scheme: rent, internet, electricity, all-in-one. No funny business. For international students, I wish to appeal to the college to act as our guarantors, so we can say goodbye to the compulsory 6-month-in-advance housing deposits.
  • Free Printing Credits
If we’re paying £9 and £13k for tuition fees, we want free library printing credits at the start of every year. Currently, not all students have this benefit. I want to work with the college to make sure everyone can print out their coursework and required reading without worrying about money.
  • Taking Your Bright Ideas Further
Hearing out student voices on how to improve campus life better. With Bright Ideas, everyone can contribute their ideas to the Students’ Union. Committing regular discussions with the SU to implement YOUR Bright Ideas. Helping you to make real change happen.
