Blog: #FemaleIsFierce

Next week, Royal Holloway Women’s Football are running a campaign called #FemaleIsFierce to raise awareness of the sexism, discrimination and bullying women often experience especially because they participate in sport.

Royal Holloway Women Football Club have created their own campaign, #FemaleIsFierce, to showcase the frequent discrimination that we have been experiencing as a female football players, and to raise general awareness about gender discrimination in sports.

The stark reality is that discrimination against women still exists. It seems absurd that women can still be paid 18% less because of our gender in 2017, and the frequent outdated joke "do you even know the offside rule?" is often heard by female football players, including some of our own Royal Holloway girls.

The campaign involved re-decorating the Students' Union with coloured card to raise awareness for the sexism, discrimination and bullying that many of us have experienced, because we play sport. We wrote anything that has been said to us that has been sexist, discriminatory or offensive. There was also a bake sale to raise money for Ditch the Label, a charity that focusses on anti-bulling and saying no to prejudice in any form.

Each day a new video has been released including testimonies from LGBT+ Society, Ballroom and Latin, Women of Colour Collective and Women’s Rugby and many more so check out our Facebook page.

Donations to the charity Ditch the Label is very much appreciated (big or small). Find out more about them here.

Please support our campaign by visiting our justgiving page.

Say no to sexism. Say no to discrimination. Say no to Bullying.
