Blog: #HealthyU: Look After Yourself

Your VP Welfare and Diversity (Willow), and your VP Sports (Steff) team up to talk about #HealthyU and about living a healthy lifestyle.

#HealthyU is back! This time, we’re focusing on looking after your mental health and ways to cope with the stress of university life, whether that’s getting involved in extra-curricular activities on campus or simply taking time to relax.

A healthy lifestyle isn’t just about exercising and eating well, it’s also about how you are feeling when you go about your day-to-day activities. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be putting on some events for you to get involved in:

Mental Health in Creative Arts (20th Oct, 4-6pm, SU Main Hall)

Join your Creative Arts societies and Mental Health Network to explore how creative arts bring positive and negative impacts to our mental wellbeing. This workshop will facilitate group discussions where different student groups (from Comedy Society to Ballroom and Latin Dancesport) can share their experiences.

Let’s Talk About Mental Health in Sport (10th Nov, 6:30-8:30pm, ALT1)

Let’s Talk About Mental Health is a series of events where students can share their experiences of mental health in a safe space, encouraging all students that it’s okay to talk. This time, Steff Milne (VP Sports) and the Mental Health Network will be joined by 4 student speakers who will be sharing how sports have played a part in their mental health journey. This event is open to all students – if you are interested in telling your story, please get in touch with the Mental Health Network (info@rhulmentalhealth.com)

Get Involved Online

As part of the campaign, we are looking at how getting involved in extra-curricular activity impacts our mental wellbeing. Look out for our social media on Facebook, where student groups will be sharing their thoughts on how their clubs & societies can provide a way to cope with stress. We want to hear about how you have benefitted from your experiences with any clubs & societies, share your thoughts with us using the hashtag #HealthyU on social media!

Look out for updates on the #HealthyU campaign, where we’ll be talking about body image in November!
