Looking after students’ wellbeing is one of the things that the Students’ Union aims to deliver, so we are starting how we mean to go on by making your Freshers’ Fair the most accessible yet! It’s so important to us that everyone can get down to the sports hall to see the 200 incredible stalls that will be there, so we’ve taken a few steps to make that possible.
Our brilliant team of student volunteers will be ready to help students at the top and bottom of the hill leading to the sports centre to help anyone who requires assistance, enabling them to meet the hundreds of societies, sports clubs and other external companies waiting in the sports hall. If you, or anyone you know has specific access requirements you can drop us an email with more information.
We’ll also be introducing a ‘Quiet Hour’ on Tuesday 20 September, from 12-1pm. This was inspired by the quiet hour introduced by ASDA to help autistic and disabled people feel more comfortable while shopping, especially those people who feel intimidated or stressed by noise.
We know that the Freshers’ Fair can be a pretty intense experience, but this quiet hour will be music-free and obstacle-free, so that disabled students can have the best possible time. This hour will be open to everyone, but we’re hoping it’ll be a supportive atmosphere that makes things easier for a lot of people.
For more information or to find about more support we can offer, feel free to contact me via email or pop into the office in the SU.
