Blog: One World Week

As One World Week comes to a close, Co-President, Brianna Middleton Macpherson writes about the massive success that was the Festival of Faith and Culture.

one world week

Last night we celebrated the Festival of Faith and Culture at the SU with some of our cultural and faith societies and student groups at Royal Holloway! This was only the second year we ran the event and we had over 200 students attend the event over the course of the evening, which I'm sure you'll agree is superb.

One World Week is always one of my favourite events of the year because it allows our students to express themselves through their cultures, faiths and beliefs, and that's why I am always so passionate about organising it and giving it a legacy.

Last night we had impromptu performances from Royal Holloway Russian Speakers Society, some beautiful singing and music from Royal Holloway Christian Union and the Royal Holloway Gospel Choir, a classical Indian solo from Raheem Mir, a Gamelan Ensemble from the Music Department and two student groups student groups we've never engaged with dancing and singing a capella!

I'd like to say a big thanks to Royal Holloway K-Pop SocietyRHUL Hindu Society and La Society RHUL for engaging everyone in their workshops.

We also had food stalls loving prepared by Royal Holloway Polish Society,RHUL Italian SocietyRoyal Holloway, Bulgarian SocietyLa Society RHUL,Royal Holloway Tamil SocietyRHUL Community Action and Royal Holloway Romanian Society - I was very proud of their delicious dishes! An extra thank you goes out to RHUL CathSoc and RHUL Secularist, Atheist and Humanist Society, for running great stalls teaching students about their faiths and beliefs. Finally I'd like to thank you to Athena Li for helping organise the event!
