Willow Wong, VP Welfare and Diversity, highlights the importance of road safety during Freshers' Festival.
Hi everyone! This week I’d like to talk to you all about something super exciting – road safety!
Given the latest building projects to expand Royal Holloway’s campus, there are lots of new places located across the A30, which is the main road that runs between the main campus and the Students’ Union’s pub, The Packhorse.
These include the music department located in Wettons Terrace, and also the new George Eliot Halls and its post room.
Just as a reminder though, the A30 is a 40MPH road, so it’s essential you all to take as much care as possible while crossing the road. You should always use the two footbridges (which I’ve circled on the map below) and the island crossing when making journeys to and from the main campus.
New Crossing
Starting from October, you will also be able to use a toucan crossing, located close to George Eliot Halls, to ensure you can safely cross the road in a convenient location.
For international students, please remember that cars drive on the left hand side of the road in the UK. Remember, always look right and left before crossing the road.
It’s also important for you to know that on every SU night out, there will be Union Buses to get you home safe from the party! But if you do decide to make the walk home please be extra vigilant if you’ve had a drink and use the footbridges instead of crossing the actual road.
Got any questions? Don’t be afraid to drop me an email or you can message me on Facebook or pop into the SU for a chat!
