Blog: This BUCS Girl Can!

It's This BUCS Girl Can week on campus and this year we're putting a slight twist on the campaign.

It's This BUCS Girl Can week on campus, however this year we are taking the campaign in a slightly different direction. I am sure we can agree that Royal Holloway (having a slightly higher female to male ratio) doesn’t struggle with women getting involved in sport and exercise.

In fact, there are more of you getting involved in sports clubs, gym classes, active leagues and drop-in sessions than ever before!

With all this awesome stuff going on around female participation I thought it would be interesting to focus this year's campaign on how mixed sport across campus impacts our students and more directly our sports clubs.

We have asked our sports clubs to submit photos accompanied by a few words about what mixed sport means to them and their members. Whether this is a mixed hockey team, men's and women's football holding a social together or a martial arts club holding mixed training sessions.

Look out for these going out on our social media platforms across the week, promoting all the great mixed sport that’s happening across campus! We are also encouraging clubs that have separate training sessions for men and women to hold a training session together during the week or support each others BUCS and LUSL matches and feed back to us their experiences.

On top of this, 14 sports clubs have entered mixed teams into our sports day event on Tuesday night! It's going to be a great week for mixed sport. Get involved on social media using the #ThisBUCSGirlCan to keep up to date with what’s going on! You can also tweet the Students' Union directly and we'll retweet your stories of mixed sport on campus and you can follow @SURHUL across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
