Blog: Women's Cricket Debut Indoor Cricket Match

Josh Stainer, Social Secretary of Royal Holloway Cricket Club, gives us a run down on the Women's Cricket team's winning debut match against our rivals at Surrey.

In their first game as an indoor cricket team, Royal Holloway Women’s Cricket travelled to Surrey University to play a 14 over match.

We elected to bowl first and caught the Surrey team half asleep as we took four early wickets with accurate and effective bowling. Charlotte Edmunds (1) and Emily Phoenix (3) led the charge for wickets. A catch from Alka Kapur a real highlight, swinging the momentum to our way.

Surrey regained their innings with some solid batting, but tight fielding and steady bowling from the Siobhan and Rebecca Merrimans and Alka reduced Surrey to 100.

Our innings got off to a flying start with Livy and Izzy steering the side to an impressive 55-0 off three overs. There was some lovely straight hitting along the ground rewarded with consistent six's, despite a fast Surrey attack.

With both our openers retiring and a blazing cameo from Charlotte 30 off 12 balls, it was left to the Merrimans to see the team home with some quick and experienced running between the wickets.

We finished on 116, showing dominance throughout. The skills and techniques shown on display was remarkable considering the majority of the team started in September.

They are always looking for new members, with ambitions of an outdoor team in the future, and after the performance vs Surrey, it really proves the skies the limit!
