Last Friday (14 October) we officially launched the Bright Ideas platform, marking the next stage in a project that has been over a year in development.

Beginning with four ideas from the sabbatical officers, the grassroots democracy platform has caught the imagination of the student body with 17 additional ideas added and 200+ votes cast over the weekend with more ideas being added throughout this week.

The next stage for the project will see the Students' Union further develop the online side of the platform - this will include detailing the process for ideas at each stage of the process and developing a news area for reporting on idea progression - while we start to look at how we can action ideas that have been successful in reaching the critical mass required to go forward.

Some early contenders for moving to the next stage of action are:

Audio Recorded Lectures

Submitted by Co-President, Welfare and Diversity, Laura Lewis, she stated: "I want audio recorded lectures available online, so that you can catch up on anything you’ve missed due to illness and so it’s easier for students whose first language isn’t English! This will make revision easier and make sure nobody falls behind."

Social Spaces Open at Weekends

Co-President, Sports and Development, Steff Milne argues: "Wouldn't you like to get lunch on campus at the weekend? Wouldn't it be great to be able to have a break from the library and get a coffee in The Hub, Boilerhouse Café or Crosslands? Lets make campus less of a ghost town at the weekends and get social spaces open!"

Two transport related ideas have also gained a lot of traction with student, Maleeha Abbas suggesting a change in the price of the campus bus service while President, Education and Campaigns, Natasha Barrett believes Kingswood deserves a better bus service.

To vote on these ideas (and plenty of others) head on over to the Bright Ideas platform now. You can also add your own idea and if it's popular enough we'll do our best to make it happen.
