Royal Holloway’s student media teams have picked up seven nominations in national student journalism awards, recognising the brilliant work of student journalists and volunteers.

With five nominations including ‘Best Publication’, ‘Best Design’ and ‘Best Website’ in the Student Publication Association (SPA) national awards, The Orbital, lead the way, while Insanity Radio have received two nominations in the Student Radio Association student journalism awards.

The nominations highlight what a fantastic year it has been for the student magazine, with Orbital Editor and Economics student Laura Denham saying: “I'm so incredibly pleased that the hard work of all our journalists, photographers and board members has been recognised in this year's Student Publication Association awards.

“When I became editor the areas I really wanted to improve were our design, website and photography, so to have been nominated in all of those categories is absolutely amazing. Particular congratulations to Jessie and Yasmeen who thoroughly deserve their individual nominations for their dedication this year!”

Alongside the three nominations for Orbital as a magazine are two individual nominations for Yasmeen Frasso and Jessie Beach-Thomas in the category of ‘Best Student Photographer’.

Co-President Societies and Media, Brianna Middleton Macpherson said: “I’m very happy to hear The Orbital & Insanity Radio have been nominated for awards from the Student Publication Association & the Student Radio Association.

“I am very proud of the team behind The Orbital Magazine & Insanity Radio this year, they’ve been striving for perfection and been working extremely hard to achieve the magazine and the quality of community radio they produce today.

“The standard of articles, photographers and writing that they are submitted today is outstanding and The Orbital couldn’t have it without the strong leadership of their editor and deputy editor Laura Denham and Holly Pyne. The variety and quality of shows aired on Insanity Radio and the amazing work they do with the community are a credit to the Station Manager & Assistant Station Manager Young Kuh Noh & Conor Ryan.”

A huge congratulations also goes to our student radio station, Insanity, which has been shortlisted for ‘Most Improved Station’ and ‘Best Outreach Project’ in the Student Radio Association student journalism awards.

Young Kuk Noh, Insanity Radio station manager said: “It has been an amazing year for Insanity Radio. We are proud of what we have achieved and are excited to find out that our achievements have been recognised on a national scale. We hope to build on our successes as we think about our future.”

Congratulations and good luck to all nominees!
