The Students’ Union can confirm that the booking of Jack Maynard on 29 November has unfortunately been cancelled after he agreed to appear on this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
We’re extremely disappointed that Jack’s management team failed to notify the Students’ Union of this decision prior to him entering the jungle, especially since a contract was signed in the summer, payment had already been made for the performance and marketing materials produced.
As it was, the first we became aware that Jack would not make his appearance was when it was announced at the weekend that he was in Australia and would likely be there past the 29 November.
On behalf of Jack, his agent has released the following statement: “Having accepted a place on ‘I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’, Jack has had to regrettably postpone two scheduled DJ performances within this timeframe.
“He has thoroughly enjoyed his Uni tour thus far and prior to confirmation of his place in the jungle, had tweeted several times with posters including Royal Holloway on the listings. He will endeavour to reschedule at the earliest possible time.”
In the short window of time since it became apparent that Jack would not be able to attend the event we have moved to book a number of artists in his place and we’ll be looking to announce these tomorrow – 21 November.
Individuals who have purchased tickets to 29 November event have been notified and offered refunds if they no longer wish to attend. The application deadline for this is midnight on Friday 24 November.
Update on 23 November 2017: After leaving the jungle to respond to questions about his past use of social media, Jack Maynard has made himself unavailable for all public appearances for the foreseeable future. The Students’ Union will not be rescheduling his appearance at Royal Holloway and his management company has agreed that the original booking fee can be used for booking an alternative artist in the future.
This article was amended on 23 November 2017 to reflect the position that Jack Maynard's booking is now cancelled and would not be rescheduled.
