Over 800 students visited Refreshers and Housing Fair on Thursday, continuing a strong year for Student Activities within the Students’ Union.

Bringing together a wide range of sports clubs, societies, media outlets, College services, external companies and the housing fair, the one-stop shop proved a hit with those looking to get involved with something new for 2016.

Co-President, Societies and Media, Brianna Middleton Macpherson said: “The building was packed with lots of different opportunities for students to engage with and we were giving away loads of goodies too.

“This ended up being the busiest and best Refreshers Fair we’ve ever had. From opportunities to join our sports clubs and societies, finding a house for the next academic year to becoming a peer guide, everyone had a great time.”

The first floor of the Students’ Union played host to the Housing Fair, featuring the range of SU approved letting agencies – Holloways’ Residential, Browns, Alpha, Aspen and Baron Residential – as well as representatives from Glide, Endsleigh Insurance, Housing Hand and many others.

Students also had the opportunity to have all their accommodation queries answered and contracts checked by the Union’s housing assistant team and welfare advisors at specialist Housing 101 sessions.

If you missed out you can book your own Housing 101 appointment today. Appointments are available Monday to Thursday between 11:00-15:00.

Got a housing query? You can contact the Housing Assistants team via email or you can drop into the office in the Students' Union.

Record Membership

The success of the event comes on the back of record membership levels for sports clubs, societies and media. 3079 students are now actively participating in regular activities within the Students’ Union, beating last year’s record of 2858.

Brianna commented: “I’m absolutely delighted that so many students are getting involved with the wide range of activity groups available to them.

“The benefits of being a part of a club, society or media outlet are clear. From being physically and mentally healthier, expanding your social circle to gaining employability skills, activity groups can really enhance students’ life on campus.”

If you’re interested in joining an activity group you can now pick up your student activities membership for just £5! For more information you can email the student activities team or pop into the office on the first floor of the SU.
