Second Hand Academic Book Sale

We are delighted to confirm that the Students’ Union will be running the first ever department-wide second hand academic book sale at the end of term. Read more to see how you can sell your books and get involved.

We are delighted to confirm that we will be running the first ever department-wide second hand academic book sale at the end of term.

The idea behind the event is that second, third and fourth year students can sell their books onto the year below more easily, and those needing textbooks for next year can pick them up for a fraction of the new cost. We like to call that ‘win win’!

So How Does It Work?

If you want us to try and sell your used books, you just need to bring them into the SU on Wednesday 23 May, let us know how much you want them on sale for and which department they are for. Afterwards, we record all the details and keep hold of your books. On the day of the sale (Friday 25 May) we put all books out on display for students to browse and buy. Pretty simple, right?

All books will have a price on the front, and we would expect there to be multiple copies of the same book so remember to prices your books competitively! We recommend checking places like Amazon to see the current price of a new copy. We will also be accepting course-specific items, for example sheet music.

What If You Sell My Books?

We will send you an email to confirm we’ve sold your books, and you come and collect your cash from the SU on Wednesday 30 or Thursday 31 May.

What If My Books Don’t Sell?

We will send you an email to let you know your books didn’t sell, and you come and collect them from the SU on Wednesday 30 or Thursday 31 May.

You are welcome to drop in multiple books to try and sell. If we sell some and not others you will be able to collect the cash for your sold ones, and collect your unsold books at the same time.

What If I Want To Buy A Book For Next Year?

Head along to the SU on Friday 25 May between 11am and 3pm and have a browse! Please note the tills will be cash only.

For more information and updates, join the Facebook event and if you have further questions, feel free to drop us an email here. Other than that, happy book shopping!
