We’re excited to announce that a brand new wooden pergola has been built outside of The Packhorse! And as always, you said and we did. The structure of the new pergola was built based on the feedback you gave us on what you wanted to see in The Packhorse.
With the pergola fully installed, the smoking area will now be under cover. This means you’ll be able to enjoy the comfort of a new, covered outdoor space that will keep the incoming winter winds away, and it will also allow you the opportunity to cosy up using the timed heaters.

New Garden Space Outside The Packhorse
Aside from the new outdoor covering, you will be able to appreciate the aesthetics of a new garden space placed just next to the pergola, complete with plants and flowers that have been locally sourced from Dunkirk Nursery. This is to ensure that we support the community’s businesses and keep money within the local economy where possible.
Live Music Every Month
In a recent survey, you guys asked for more live music in The Packhorse. And so, we’re hosting open mic nights every month to support aspiring student musicians, comedians and performers. All you need to do is drop us a message on Facebook asking to take part, turn up and show off your talent to an eager audience.
Increasing Portion Sizes
We had a lot of feedback saying that the meal portion sizes were a tad too small for your liking. Well, we’re fixing that by increasing the portion sizes on ALL the meals we have to offer, making sure you don’t leave the pub hangry.
A Jar of the Day Offer
You don’t need to kill your bank whenever you want to enjoy that post-lecture cocktail, before heading over for a big night out to the SU. Luckily for you (and your bank), we will now have a ‘Jar of the Day’ cocktail, which we will sell at £3.50 per glass from 5pm. I mean, you can’t really go wrong with cheap cocktails, can you?
Incoming Fruity Cider
For all the cider enthusiasts, you’ll be pleased to know that we are looking to bring in a dark fruits cider. Gone are the days of forcing yourself to revel in the flavours of fruity beer, in hopes that it will one day transform into cider. (PS: We’re not hating on fruity beers at all).
Lunchtime Deals
Whilst this is still in the works, it is something that we are looking to implement. Prepare yourself to hopefully one day, enjoy a sandwich and a drink deal between 12pm and 5pm, making sure that you can get a hefty lunch on a budget.
