Blog: Cheerleading Success At The ICC Regionals

The Royal Holloway Cheerleading Committee tells us about their most successful ICC Southern Regional Championships in Bears history, taking home four division wins and two grand champion placings!

On 4 February, we took our four competitive teams to Guildford Spectrum to compete in our first competition of the season, ICC Southerns. With more universities in our divisions and a larger number of spectators than any previous year, we felt the pressure and were hungry for more trophies to get our competition season off to the best possible start.

Last year, we took home three division wins. Yesterday, we took home FOUR division wins and TWO grand champion placings in both cheerleading and dance, making this the most successful ICC Southerns in Bears history!

We arrived at midday and watched all the teams competing for World entry bids from all over the South. At around 5pm our dance teams headed into warmup and put on two smashing performances, that lead to Hip Hop gaining one of the highest scores of the day.

The Cheer team then took over the matt with two zero deduction performances, leading to a fighting finish with not one flyer falling. We knew we had performed well, but going up against Southampton, Kent and Chichester (twice) left us eager to prove that our winning season of 2017 was continuing into this year.

We’d also spent a total of 25 hours training in just the final week, so we knew our hard work would pay off! We are now super pumped to take our routines to two more national competitions over the next month, and of course varsity!
