Cheerleading Charity & Fundraising Secretary, Abby White, tells us all about the wonderful fundraising events they organised throughout Term One to help the charity Beauty Banks UK, and how you can get involved!
Last term, Royal Holloway Cheerleading and Dance began their fundraising for Beauty Banks UK. In the space of 11 weeks, we raised £445 using our JustGiving link and collected 210 products between five teams!
Beauty Banks UK is a charity focused on collecting toiletries, sanitary and beauty products to give to those who are unable to afford these luxuries themselves. They work alongside organisations such as Superdrug and Sainsbury’s who give space for donation bins where members of the public can donate during their shopping trips. Most of the products collected by Beauty banks are sent to foodbanks, refuges, baby banks, Homestart and Little Village.
How did we help?
As a club, we saw that most of the products collected by Beauty Banks are often items most of us take for granted. They only cost a small amount in superstores and between everyone last term we donated 64 tubes of toothpaste, 63 bottles of body wash and 83 sanitary products.
We also ran a craft afternoon where members came to Tommy’s Kitchen to make their own Christmas Cheerleading bows and wear them at our showcase.
We held our annual Snowcase in December. This is an event for family and friends to watch some of the routines we have been working on. We had a bake and sweet sale at this event that really pushed up the donations.
At our Christmas dinner, we ran a pub quiz to finish the year with some extra donations.
Overall, we raised £445 and all committee members are incredibly proud of how kind every person has been.
Term Two brings more charity fun for our club with sponsorship for the three committee members that will be running the Egham and Thorpe 10K and Half Marathon, as well as another showcase in March and other popular events, such as Boozey Bingo.
