Democracy Review: Next Steps

After speaking to loads of you last week about our five ideas to change our democratic structure, it's time for the next steps!

Last week we released the findings of our Students’ Union Democracy Review that we commissioned this year, and held three days of face-to-face and online consultation on our proposed changes to the SU as a result of your feedback.

Following 1-2-1 interviews and focus groups with students and reps, plus mass student consultation online last term, we spoke to loads of you last week about our five big ideas for shaking things up within the SU’s democratic structure.

So what’s happening?

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be looking over all of your feedback on the proposed changes, and working to draft a new constitution for the Union that would enact these changes whilst considering any concerns you have raised. We’ll then be getting ready to hold a referendum in term three for you to decide whether we should accept the new constitution or not. We will release the proposed constitution on Friday 26 April – so in one month’s time! In the meantime if you have any questions or things that you think we should bear in mind, please feel free to contact me. Long live democracy!
