This year, staff from across the College have worked tirelessly to help you navigate a safe return to in-person teaching. It’s been a huge task and we’d like to say thank you to absolutely everyone who has made this academic year possible.

One way that we regularly recognise the great work of College staff is through You're Valued - our year-round rewards scheme that allows you to celebrate the work of all the staff who work within the College. It's your way of thanking people who consistently go above and beyond to make your life better at Royal Holloway and to embody the values that we and the College promote.

We know that this isn’t an exhaustive list of everyone who has had a positive impact across campus, but here are a few of our You’re Valued awardees from the 2021/22 academic year:

Dr. Paris Chronakis

(Lecturer in Modern Greek History)

The students who nominated Paris want to praise the joy he brings to his teaching. His students recognise that Paris regularly makes himself available for extracurricular activities and support. Coming out of the pandemic, students have appreciated all of Paris' help and assurance.

Ailson J. De Moraes

(Senior Lecturer in Strategy, International Business, and Entrepreneurship)

Ailson is praised by his nominators for being an excellent mentor. He is known by his students as being incredibly kind and helpful as well as offering outstanding support both as a lecturer and a personal tutor. Ailson has also been recognised for offering students support for the next steps after university from advice around applying for a Master’s degree to more general career guidance.

Dr. Elton Xhetani

(Director of Student Experience at the School of Business & Management and Senior Lecturer)

Students have nominated Elton for his commitment to students' academic experience and wellbeing with weekly catch-ups. From always sharing the necessary information with students and taking the time to explain tricky concepts, to going above and beyond as a module leader. As Director of Student Experience, he has organised many great events for students and his passion, and happy attitude shine through.

Dr. Lucy Gill-Simmen

(Senior Lecturer in Marketing)

The student who nominated Lucy appreciates how interesting and engaging she made her modules. Her modules were insightful and a great source of learning, as well as being loads of fun. Lucy has taught her students important skills for their future in the industry that will make them stand out. Students say she’s the professor that everyone needs.

These five members of staff have been nominated as a group for developing and implementing the Undergraduate Research Bursary scheme to help a wider range of undergraduate students secure research placements. The placements will help students to develop practical, transferable skills to enrich their CVs and provide an opportunity to build meaningful mentoring links with academic staff.
