Extenuating Circumstances During Summer Assessments

As Summer Assessments from home start to get closer, we wanted to let you know that if you experience Extenuating Circumstances during this period, you will still be able to apply for them!

We know that this academic year has been a rollercoaster ride. On top of that, some of you now have to face Summer Assessments from home, so we’re here to let you know that if you do experience Extenuating Circumstances during the Summer Assessments period, you are still able to apply for them!

What are Extenuating Circumstances?

These are circumstances which are outside of your control as they’re unforeseeable and unpreventable.

Extenuating Circumstances (ECs) impact on your ability to carry out any assignments or exams to the standard normally expected. The University can make allowances through the ECs process when such circumstances happen.

If a situation arises leading up to or during the assessment period you may apply for Extenuating Circumstances to be taken into consideration.

The Extenuating Circumstances form for Summer Vacations Assessment will be available on 14 August 2020.

The deadline for submitting your Extenuation Circumstances application is 8 September 2020 at noon.

You can apply for ECs for work you’ve attempted/submitted (whether it’s an exam or assignment) and for work that you were not able to attempt/submit.

How to apply for Extenuating Circumstances

You can submit an application for Extenuating Circumstances by completing the online ‘click through’ Extenuating Circumstances Form

You will also have the opportunity to upload your evidence to the form prior to submission.  

You will need to explain how the circumstances were unforeseen and unpreventable and then how they had a detrimental impact on your ability to complete the assessment. If you require help for this, you can draft your responses in an email and ask an advisor to check your draft for you. 

Once you submit your application, you will receive an email confirming it has been received. You will not be informed of the success of your application until your results have been ratified and released.
