Freshers' Festival Round-Up

As Freshers' Festival nears its conclusion, we’ve compiled a few fun facts to show you just how much has happened this week!

We’re nearly at the end of Freshers’ Festival and what a week it has been!

We hope you’ve all had a fantastic welcome to campus and that our newest members are settling in well to life at Royal Holloway. Since arrivals weekend (sorry about the rain) we've hosted 37 events across campus ranging from halls talks with your sabbatical officers, Jack Fowler giving the Love Island vibes in the venue, laser tag in the Union Main Hall through to dishing out a shedload of free pizza at Freshers' Fair!

To give you an idea of the scale of madness that is Freshers’ Festival, we’ve compiled a few fun facts for you to check out.

Smashing Arrivals Weekend

With circa 2000 arrivals on Saturday and 1500 on Sunday, we helped approximately 3500 new students into halls over arrivals weekend.

78 student volunteers gave up their time to help you move into your new homes, taking on the elements to make sure your first hours on campus went as smoothly as possible - so here's a big shout out to our volunteers, they're the real MVPs!

A Year of Work in Less Than a Week

We've been busy cooking up burgers, serving you drinks and hooking you up with wristbands at the Union Helpdesk - and that's just a few of the things our amazing student staff team do at the SU.

What's absolutely mind-blowing though is the fact that they've lodged a staggering 8042 hours of work since the beginning of Freshers' Festival on Saturday. To put that into perspective, that's just short of a full year of work in a week!

Freshers’ Fair Freebies

We had a massive 3790 unique visitors to our Freshers' Fair at the Sports Centre on Monday and Tuesday which is pretty much over a third of all students at Royal Holloway visiting the fair over two days. The cherry on top is the fact you chomped your way through over 2000 slices of pizza - kindly provided by our Freshers' Festival sponsors Domino’s - while slurping your way through over a thousand Red Bull mocktails.

The Return of the VK Claw

It wouldn't be Royal Holloway without a VK based stat and you have not let the team down. So far this week you've got through an impressive 11,698 bottles of VK in the Union Venue alone, yes you read that correctly, 11,698 bottles of VK in six days, madness.

That said, it looks like you've taken a liking to the new look Tommy's Kitchen menu. You've devoured the wider range of burgers and put away 1882 during our lunchtime serving sessions. In fact, they've been so popular that we had to draft in extra help in the kitchen just to keep up with demand!

The best thing about all of this is that the week isn't even over yet. Tonight at 6pm we have the Islamic Society BBQ in the Medicine Garden, Andy C is hitting the decks in the Union Venue at 10pm and there's 2000 of you heading to Founder's South Quad for Freshers' Ball on Saturday night.

Check out the full list of what's on at the Students' Union over on our events page and we hope you continue to have an absolutely awesome year.
