If you're part of a society, sports club, or media outlet and want to positively impact the future of your group, it's time to nominate yourself for a committee position in the 2021 Student Group Elections!
Lucy Brown
VP Societies & Sport
Have you been part of a society, sports club, or media outlet this year? Interested in the operations behind delivering core activity, events, competitions, and much more? Want to make a change to how your group is run?
If the answer is yes, it's time to nominate yourself for a committee position!
Committee members play a key role in the running of our groups, making sure that they are inclusive, respectful and driven. They also look after the involvement of each group with other activities like fundraising and volunteering.
While you'll be tasked with leading your group(s) in the next academic year, you'll start training before the summer to make sure you're ready to hit the ground running in September.
Nominations are now open and there is nothing stopping you from being the next leader of your group or leaving your own stamp on student experience at Royal Holloway!
Being a part of a student group committee allows you to positively affect the university experiences of students outside of their academic studies, not only in the year you are elected but in the future too. While it may seem like a lot of work, it is one of the most rewarding things you will do at university, allowing you to meet new people, share in opportunities, whilst also adding great value to your CV.
So what are you waiting for?!

I’m still a bit unsure if I should run…
If you have made it this far, chances are you are just the kind of person we are looking for!!
It may be a daunting prospect, so why not have a chat with some of this year’s committee and ask them about their experience? Or check out @RHSUSocSport on Instagram and the #ContinueOurStory social media campaign where this year's committee members tell you what they found most rewarding about their position, and hopefully demonstrate why you should get involved.

FAQs
Who can run for a position?
Only current Royal Holloway students, who will still be a current student in September 2021, are able to nominate themselves in this election.
You must also be a member of the group you intend to run for, so make sure you have bought a membership (even if it is a free membership!)

What positions are open?
Because of the unique makeup of our clubs and societies, there are far too many positions to list here. Instead, the positions that are up for election can be found on our website by scrolling to the bottom of your student group webpage and clicking ‘Post List’.
President, Secretary and Treasurer are the core positions for every student group. These three positions must be filled in order to remain an active group.
How can I nominate myself?
To nominate yourself, all you have to do is head over to the Student Group Elections page - click ‘Stand’, complete the information, and submit your nomination.
There will be an option to stand for a position and upload a 400-word manifesto. Please be aware that the nominations will appear as ‘pending’ until nominations close on 30 April.
Who can vote?
Individuals who are a current Royal Holloway student and a member of your group will be eligible to vote. If you've not yet purchased a membership for a group, make sure you do so (even if it is a free membership!)
