Toast On The Move To The SU

The Easter break is over and we know you’re craving your Toast fix. Well, big news - Toast will be taking place in the Students’ Union for the rest of term three. Don't worry, nothing else changes; your £1.50 food and drink is here to stay. The only difference is the capacity will be larger, so you can bring more of your mates along to Monday's legendary night out.

Why Is Toast Moving To The Students’ Union?

Not sure if you’ve heard, but we’ve teamed up with the College to refurbish Medicine and make it look brand-spanking new, ready for the next academic year. We feel that Medicine is a bit outdated and with funds from the University, we can now begin a big refresh and give you the quality venue you deserve.

We’ve got a few reasons as to why we want to refurbish Medicine.

Firstly, we want to ensure that student groups can use high-quality spaces on campus for their activities, so we intend to make Medicine more flexible for wider use. For example, improving the space for performing arts productions, drinks receptions and academic departmental events.

We also want to make sure that the space can be used by you and your groups without staffing costs being incurred, something that we know is a big frustration on your part. As part of that, we're looking at all the options available so that groups can use the space throughout the day, free of charge.

Lastly, we want to ensure that our events programme is delivered at a professional standard. For the past ten years, Medicine has been an important second venue for student nightlife at Royal Holloway. So we want to make sure that we continue improving our late-night events programme and the refurbishment is essential for that to happen.

In light of this, Medicine closed on 23 March and has been stripped bare in preparation for the building work. It will not re-open until this year’s Freshers’ Festival in September.

Being safe at our events

Your safety is our number one priority and we will be continuing with our Spiked campaign in term three. Part of this involves our commitment to delivering an elevated security protocol across our venues and offering spikeys at the bar to protect your drink. This is an essential measure to ensure you can enjoy your night in a safe environment, but remember that speed of entry may be affected so where possible please arrive at events as early as you can.

Please report any incidents or suspicious activity in our venues to a member of our security/bar team who will be able to assist you. For any incidents that you wish to report post-event, please email venues@su.rhul.ac.uk so that we can investigate.

Enjoy your night, have fun, but most importantly, stay safe.
