For the second year in a row, Tommy's Bar has achieved gold accreditation in the Best Bar None Awards, with an unprecedented score of 100%.
For the second year in a row, Tommy’s Bar has achieved gold Best Bar None accreditation with an outstanding 100% overall score.
This year's awards ceremony was held at Manchester Metropolitan University, on the first evening of NUS Conference. 53 universities were recognised for achieving the Best Bar None standard with 31 universities joining the gold 100% club - a perfect score for their assessment.
Achieving 100% was an unprecedented result for Tommy's, and testament to the hard work put in by the whole of Trading Services, from our permanent team through to our student staff members.
I'm delighted to have beaten our previous best score of 95% that we achieved last year, when we were awarded gold accreditation for the first time.
What is Best Bar None?
Best Bar None is an accreditation scheme with National Awards supported by the Home Office and the drinks industry. It is aimed primarily at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises.
For Students' Unions, the scheme shows commitment to ensuring all students have access to licensed premises that promote responsible alcohol retailing and provide a safe venue to visit. Students’ Unions have always considered the welfare of their students and Best Bar None aims to recognise, promote and reward the efforts that Students’ Unions place on corporate social responsibility.
Providing high quality service
This recognition proves that we provide a high quality service in our venues, while we are looking after the welfare of our customers. Staff awareness in the topic has increased to ensure that our customers have a good night out.
Having been the project lead for the second year in a row, I am very proud of the team who worked very hard to train staff, update policies and procedures and ensure that our venues are in line with the relevant legislation.
