Conservation and Animal Volunteer Society

Welcome to the Royal Holloway Conservation and Animal Volunteering Society (CAVS)! The society exists to allow students who are passionate about animal rights and conservation matters to meet, mingle and help out in any way we can.

Current members are passionate about making sure that the world around is cared for and safe, so if you feel the same, this is the society for you! Whether this is something you have held near and dear to heart for a long time or you have only just started to learn about, know that we are open to all students of all backgrounds who share that common desire to help.

In the past year, we might not have been able to do as many in-person events as we would have liked. However, no matter our medium this year, we will continue to make this a place where we do what is right by the environment and share our message with the wider student body.

The CAVS committee of 21/22 welcomes you to the society and we look forward to what you bring in the next academic year. We look forward to seeing you at Freshers or at any of our events.

Membership

Our Standard membership allows members to be on our mailing list for our monthly newsletter, join our society’s Facebook Group, run for any open committee positions and will have a discount for any ticketed events. This membership will only cost £3

Events

We are going ahead and planning events as though they will take place in person, however depending on SU and government guidance that may change. No fear though because we will be organising events with that in mind so if things do need to move online, we will be prepared.

As of now, we plan on holding events such as those which follow:

  • Freshers Fair & Taster Session: This is a chance for new students and those already at Holloway to come and meet the committee and see what exactly we will be doing in the upcoming year

  • Fundraising events: each semester we plan on holding a charity/fundraiser which will be organised by both the committee and members of the society.

  • Guest speakers: We are working hard to reach out to people to visit us and speak to on campus. Some of these events may include live animals so keep an eye out and see!

  • Volunteering events: While we might not be able to visit shelters just yet, we are finding ways to still volunteer as a society, including potentially helping with dog walking etc.

  • Socials: This is your classic pub night/quiz, holiday centred stuff and anything we hold with the purpose of having fun!
