Rate Your Union 2023 Action Plan

After reviewing your Rate Your Union feedback, the Students’ Union has come up with an action plan to implement changes in the way we run our activities and services this academic year with an aim to have a positive impact on your student experience!

Rate Your Union

Recently, we shared the results from last year’s Rate Your Union survey that asked you about your experiences using our services. After reviewing your feedback, the Students’ Union has come up with an action plan to implement changes in the way we run our activities and services this academic year with an aim to have a positive impact on your student experience!

Actions

From this year’s results, we have set the following action plan to tackle some of the feedback we have received for each of our services.

Advice Centre

  • We will review our current online information and insight we receive to better educate students on their rights.
  • We will review our case management system to better understand students’ needs and implement an appropriate SLA/enquiry management experience for students.
  • We will investigate a better approach to emergency/crisis management and the role of Advice in these tough times.

Student Groups

  • We will review our current access to spaces on campus for groups and activities. Once we have a better picture, we will put together a proposal to get access to more useful and higher-quality space for our groups and consider how we can improve off-campus group resources.
  • We will work on gaining access to more daytime space for groups to utilise.
  • We will investigate ways to better showcase student group activities, allowing more people to become interested in joining our groups.
  • Work on an approach for the Helpdesk to deal with enquiries for major events support such as Summer Ball.
  • Look at current student group processes to reduce the burden on committee members as they commented that their time in office was challenging with a high degree of administration and bureaucracy.

Student Voice

  • We will review support for the activities of our Communities at RHSU and see how we can build on their early successes.
  • We will investigate better ways to allow for Officer accountability and visibility so that students can engage with and influence our Officers and Union activities.

Student Staffing

  • We will review student staff recognition and ways of celebrating their success.
  • Look at better use of the student staff forum to drive staff satisfaction.
  • We will look to implement a student staff strategy, that will look at satisfaction around staffing practices and hours along with contract structures.
  • Look at the delivery of workshops and skills development sessions to better support our student staff and volunteers in their future careers.

Freshers

  • We will review and re-think Freshers Festival delivery to combat issues around cost of living and inclusivity with the aim to re-invigorate the ‘buzz’.
  • We will look at the use of Medicine for daytime activity allowing new students to have a place to congregate and meet new people.

Venues and Trading

  • We will monitor Tommy’s Kitchen menu and service model changes to assess the impact and inform future changes.
  • We will review the Meal Deal options and investigate more fresh produce, Veg and Vegan options.
  • We will look at ways to improve customer service delivery in the Union Shop and encourage customer feedback.
  • We will continue with the ongoing implementation of the Security Review outcomes.
  • We will look at ways to make the venues more accessible for student group activities through innovative use of the spaces available.
  • We will lobby the University to diversify the commercial and social offering on campus to be more inclusive and relevant for our community.

Marketing and Communication

  • We will evaluate our website and look at ways to improve its use, along with looking at other ways our services can be better used/viewed online.

The Students' Union

  • Each team will review one way in which we can become more transparent or showcase how decisions are made.

Next steps

We’re in the process of building a webpage which will show the progress of each action as it is being implemented throughout the academic year, and we will update you regularly about these changes on our website and social media!
