Rate Your Union

Every year, we ask standard questions in our annual Rate Your Union survey about your experiences using our services which help guide our plans for the next academic year. As members and regular users of our services, you’re best placed to tell us what we’re doing right and, more importantly, where we can improve as a Students’ Union.

Now that we’ve analysed the results, we want to share some of what we’ve learned from the survey, which we have never shared with students before! Below we have broken down some of the survey results into themes around our activities and services, our overall performance, five key aims and your opinion about ways we can improve as a Students’ Union.

WHAT we learned

In total, Rate Your Union had a maximum of 710 student respondents for the Students’ Union section of the survey, which asked students last year about their experiences and satisfaction with the Students’ Union. The number of answers to each question varied, however, depending on logic skips, previous answer choices, engagement with activities and services, and whether students completed this section.

Below we have shared student satisfaction results around their experiences with some of our SU activities such as student groups, academic reps and elections. For all results around satisfaction, ‘Satisfied’ includes the answer choices: Definitely Satisfied, Mostly Satisfied and Slightly Satisfied. ‘Neutral’ includes the answer choice ‘Neither Satisfied nor Dissatisfied’. ‘Dissatisfied’ includes the answer choices: ‘Definitely Dissatisfied, Mostly Dissatisfied and Slightly Dissatisfied.

Next, we're looking at student satisfaction around students' experiences with some SU services like the Advice Centre, our venues, Give It A Go, Market Day and our website.

In our previous strategy, What’s Next I-III (2020-24), we stated that our mission as a Students’ Union is to make student life better at Royal Holloway, and we hope to achieve that through five key areas that have the potential to positively impact the student experience. The infographics below present the satisfaction ratings for our Overall Performance and our Five Key Aims. Each question set had a total of 560 responses.

We asked students in the survey, ‘How would you describe the Students' Union in three words?’ Below are the results for the top positive, neutral and negative words we received from students.

Every year in the survey, we ask students about what sort of changes they would like to make to their student experience at Royal Holloway. We focus these questions on three areas: the Students’ Union, the University or academic department and the local community. Above, you can find the top answers we received from 533 students about the changes they would like to see in the SU!

What’s next

These are just some of the figures we’ve pulled from the survey, and we are currently reviewing all the student feedback we received in Rate Your Union and using that information to implement positive changes in our activities and services to improve your experience with the Students’ Union. We will be updating you regularly about these changes on our website and social media throughout the academic year!
