The PGT Experience: Survey Three Results

Over the summer, we asked PGT students to take part in one final survey for our Policy Inquiry and now it's time to share the results! We've also compiled a list of potential recommendations to improve your experience and would love to hear your thoughts.

In Term One of the 2022-23 academic year, we announced that we were running a PGT Policy Inquiry with the aim of finding out what current PGT students would like to improve about their experiences of the degree while studying at Royal Holloway.

In February, the Students’ Union shared the results of the first survey which focused on students’ experiences in Term One. We ran a second survey in Term Three which asked students about teaching satisfaction, the UCU strikes, feedback and skills development, and we shared the results of the second survey in July.

We ran a final survey over the summer and asked students if they felt their department had prepared them for work on their dissertation or major project, satisfaction with supervisors, support they received while working on their dissertation or major project, whether their experiences of the degree met their expectations at the start and, finally, their satisfaction with their overall experience of the course.

Like last time, we’re sharing some of the results of this survey to keep students more informed about everything that has happened so far with this Policy Inquiry!

What we learned

What’s next

Even though many of you have already submitted your dissertation or major project, our work on this Policy Inquiry continues.

We have drafted a potential list of recommendations that we believe will create long-lasting and positive change for current and prospective PGT students at Royal Holloway, and we want your feedback on these recommendations! If you have any thoughts or suggestions about the way we can improve these recommendations please leave a comment in the box below. Some comments might appear in our final voice report, but these will be anonymised before publication. Once we have received your feedback, we’ll send a finalised list to the University along with a completed Student Voice Report which presents the findings of this Policy Inquiry in more detail.

We would like to take this moment to thank all students who have spent time sharing their feedback in surveys and our focus group over the last year. We value and appreciate your time because without it we would not have these recommendations or a report to share with the University to make postgraduate taught student life better at Royal Holloway.

We'd love to hear what you think about our recommendations! If you have any thoughts, let us know by commenting on this blog or drop an email to our Student Voice team by Friday 26 October.
