Accessibility

Attitude is Everything

The Students’ Union is keen to promote equality of opportunity for people with disabilities and to take the necessary steps to meet their requirements. Since November 2015, we’ve been working with 'Attitude is Everything’, to improve deaf and disabled people’s access to the Summer Ball.

We aim to make the event as accessible as possible and the information below is a guide on where we can offer our support. We're still working on a couple of details alongside our events team and we’ll be updating this page as more information becomes available. For specific enquiries you can contact our team at DisabledAccess@su.rhul.ac.uk.

Booking Tickets

All tickets are provided as general admission so you just need to purchase a ticket either through this site or from the Students’ Union on ticket launch day – 24 March. Once you’ve booked a ticket we'd ask that you contact us well in advance of the event so that we can provide you with an allocated space in the accessible viewing area.

Please note that we do not sell accessible viewing area tickets, just general admission. If the event is sold out we cannot sell extra tickets.

Complimentary Personal Assistant Ticketing Scheme

People with accessibility requirements may need to have someone to assist them during the event. We are offering a two for one ticket policy for personal assistants for the Summer Ball upon request via email. Aside from this scheme we do not offer any reduced rate tickets (excluding early bird offers) and the service we offer is of equal quality to all our customers.

Large Groups

We try and accommodate everyone’s requirements. If someone has accessibility requirements and is with a large group of people we will try and keep the group together however it may not be in the designated accessible viewing area. Large groups are strongly encouraged to email in advance to make arrangements.

Evacuation Policy

All our security are trained in assisting disabled customers in case of emergency. We do not have a specific emergency or refuge point but disabled customers are asked when they enter the building to remain in the accessible viewing area in case of emergency. Every disabled person is allocated a member of security when they arrive who is to go to their assistance if we need to evacuate.

Deaf and Visually Impaired Customers

Visually impaired customers are more than welcome to use the accessible viewing area if they would like to. As well as offering an induction loop, deaf or hard of hearing customers are also more than welcome to stand at the front of the gig and security will ensure this is possible. Please note, induction loops will be collected during the wristband exchange in the Students' Union main building ahead of the event.

People with Photosensitive Epilepsy

We use strobe and flashing lighting throughout the event. If you require further information please email our commercial services team.

Inside the Ball

We want the Summer Ball to be an event that everyone can enjoy so we try our best to make Founder's Building as accessible as we can. Although there are some stone tracks and walkways through the site, there is also a lot of grass which can make conditions difficult if inclement weather occurs.

Just as we prepare for all conditions, we do ask that you do too. So please consider the ground conditions on the day of the Ball and check the weather forecast when deciding what facilities you may need and what equipment you need to bring.

Register with our Team by 15 May

We ask that anyone requiring access to any of the disabled facilities on-site registers with our Access Team in advance of the Ball informing them of your needs. You can contact them on:

Email: DisabledAccess@su.rhul.ac.uk

Phone: 01782 276700

Please note: The disabled facilities provided at the Summer Ball are for customers with permanent disabilities and as such individuals suffering recent injuries (such as a broken leg) do not qualify.

Arriving by car/blue badge parking

There is dedicated disabled parking across campus. To access the nearest bays to the ball you need to enter the main gate, take your first left, followed by your first right. We can reserve a bay if you pre-book via email before 15 May.
