Staff Inductions

Overview

HR will invite all new student staff to attend a 3 hour induction for their area of work (Shop, Licenced Trade or Office). This induction is split into two parts:

  • Part one is a general induction that is applicable wherever you work in the Students’ Union. It will tell student staff about the Students’ Union, what it’s like to work for us, how they get paid and their uniform.
  • Part two will provide more specific information about what to expect when they start working in their team. They be given specific knowledge that relates to their team, as well as get involved in some fun activities to start building relationships with their peers.

Security Stewards will be invited by HR to attend a steward training day that will generally run on the Saturday or Sunday before their induction.

Additional training

During their induction new student staff will be asked to sign up for various compulsory training sessions including Team Training, Fire Evacuation and First Aid, depending on their role.

In the days following their induction all new staff will then complete role training in their teams where they will learn more about their new role and the duties and responsibilities that this will involve. In addition they will take part in venue and role specific Health & Safety training.

Once induction, role training and all H&S training has been completed new student staff are ready to start work and may be given shifts via RotaCloud.

Should any new member of student staff not complete their H&S training within the given timescale, or not attend their team training they will not be able to start work. HR will let you know if this is the case and will suspend the student’s RotaCloud account until all training is complete.
