Freshers’ Festival 2022 Wrap-Up

We hope you all had a fantastic welcome to campus and that our newest members are settling in well to life at Royal Holloway. With Term One in full swing, we’ve wrapped up Freshers’ Festival but let’s take a look back at what was an absolutely awesome week!

We think it’s safe to say Freshers’ Festival kicked off the 2022-23 year with a bang! We hope you all had a fantastic welcome to campus and that our newest members are settling in well to life at Royal Holloway.

Since arrivals weekend, we've hosted over 50 events across campus ranging from the Colour Run to the legendary Glitterbomb ft. Cheryl Hole and Danny Beard and a lovely evening at Board Games and Chill.

With Term One in full swing, we’ve wrapped up Freshers’ Festival but let’s take a look back at what was an absolutely awesome week!

Freshers' Fair

Over the course of just 7 hours, we saw over 3800 of you at the Sports Centre for Freshers’ Fair! With 110+ student groups present, we’re sure you all found a sport or society that you want to get involved in - it was a great time to chat with our lovely committee members on their stalls. You also brought 6 sports clubs and societies back to life through our Adopt a Group scheme!

There's still loads of time to join a club or society and we can’t wait to see you trying out loads of new activities. It’s been amazing seeing so many of you attend sessions over the last two weeks, including a mind-boggling 226 of you turning up for the Men’s Football taster!

It wouldn’t be Freshers’ Fair without a ton of freebies, and we didn’t disappoint! We had the classic Freshers’ Fair staple of Domino’s pizza, serving up slices for you to chomp on, and free cans of Monster to quench your thirst. And, a whopping 500 condoms were given away to promote safe sex on campus! Don’t forget, the freebies don’t stop there - you can grab free condoms, tampons and sanitary pads at the Advice Centre, upstairs in the Students’ Union!

What went down?

As we welcomed new and returning students to Royal Holloway, our staff worked incredibly hard to organise a week full of activities, and we hope you had a blast. We hosted everything from day-time events and fun socials to nights full of music, dance and drinks! It was a week packed with events where we had the pleasure of welcoming fantastic artists like Cheryl Hole and Danny Beard, Fuse ODG, Nova Twins, Majestic, and Sigma - as well as loads more!

The VK claw returned! It wouldn't be Royal Holloway without a VK-based stat and you have not let the team down. Over the course of the week, you got through an impressive 4,537 bottles of VK. Yes, you read that correctly. That’s the equivalent of over two pallets, madness!

We kicked off this academic year’s Give It A Go programme with a bang! These are smaller-scale events that are predominantly alcohol-free and focused on you meeting new people in a fun, relaxed and welcoming environment. A whopping 1041 students came along to the Give It A Go Festival, where they enjoyed a range of activities from making some furry friends, to face painting, to cupcake decorating. It was a great chance to relax against the backdrop of the iconic Founder’s Building. There are a load more Give It A Go activities planned for Term One, so check out our events calendar to see what you fancy!
