Nominations for the Leadership Elections 2024 close this Sunday 4 February so this is your sign to take the leap and put yourself forward! We're here with a reminder of what roles we have on offer and why you should consider running.

Anyone can stand to be elected for one of our four full-time, paid Sabbatical Officer roles: President, VP Education, VP Wellbeing & Diversity, and VP Societies & Sport. We'll also be electing six School Reps to represent your views at school level and nine Community Officers to champion underrepresented groups on campus.

As a Sabbatical Officer (Sabb), you’ll represent and lead 12,000+ students, turn your manifesto points into a reality, sit on important committees, and build networks with senior figures at the University, including the Principal. If you want to get an idea of what the Sabbatical Officer roles entail, take a look at what current and previous Sabbs have said about their experiences.

What could you achieve as a Sabb?

Over the past few years alone, Sabbatical Officers have achieved incredible wins for students at Royal Holloway and you could be next! Here's a quick list of some of the things they've been up to.

  • The SU Security Review was implemented to find out how safe students feel in SU venues. This year, we've been acting on student feedback and working on recommendations from the review to make our venues safer. Read the latest in our blog!
  • Last year, our President successfully lobbied for the University to divest from fossil fuels - taking Royal Holloway in the right direction to protect the planet!
  • Free period products on campus have been introduced as a result of student feedback!
  • ‘Financial hardship’ has been added to the Extenuating Circumstances policy.
  • Gender-neutral toilets are now featured on the campus map.
  • An Afro-Caribbean food stall is a regular at Market Day thanks to a Black History Month campaign.
  • Wellbeing roles are now part of student group committees with training offered to members.
  • Helped overturn the University’s initial stance of using Turnitin’s AI detector.
  • Worked with Runnymede Borough Council to help students during the cost of living crisis so that the SU can now provide food bank vouchers and electricity bill payment support of up to £200 a month for student households.
  • Identified and secured alternative study spaces on campus.
  • Introduced the Buddy Scheme to bring students together.
  • Countless other campaigns to improve student life!

Reps and Community Officers

Community Officers and School reps both work closely with the SU and with the Sabbatical Officers, to bring important student issues to SU and University decision-making level, as well as spearhead important campaigns and initiatives. Check out what the roles entail here
